With its mission to extend linkages to the National Government Agencies (NGAs), MSU-Buug grabs the opportunity to have linkage with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), a newly created department through Republic Act 10844.  One of its programs is to provide Free Wi-Fi for All to all public places all over the Philippines. With no hesitation, MSU- Buug sent a Letter of Intent to the DICT last August 2019 to express its desire to avail the technology empowerment service. A few months later, the request was approved by the DICT-Mindanao Cluster 1 Office at Zamboanga City.  Luckily, an installation was done just before the year ended last 2019, hence, the Free Wifi for all was used as the main internet connection of the campus. Since then, MSU-Buug became one of the lucky recipients of the DICT program.

Another milestone has come for MSU-Buug when the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between two parties: Dr. Sultan Pangandag M. Magolama, Chancellor of MSU-Buug and Dir. Ma. Teresa M. Camba, Regional Director, DICT – MC1 last February 2020. Unfortunately, the massive invasion of COVID-19 in the country, the Free Wifi for All and Tech4Ed Program was not able to launch on time.

On August 25, 2020, the two (2) programs were officially launched at Graduate School Conference, MSU-Buug. The event was spearheaded by our Chancellor, Dr. Sultan Pangandag M. Magolama with the presence of the two (2) representatives from DICT namely: Mr. Mark Gacutan (in-charge of FreeWifi4All) and Mr. Uris Ponollera (in-charge of Tech4Ed). While Dir. Camba and Mr. Rodrigo Macansantos witnessed the launching via virtual Teleconferencing using Zoom. The highlight of the launching was the cutting of the ribbon which was done by Chancellor Magolama and Sir Uris Ponollera. It was followed by the chancellor’s word of thanks to Dir. Camba for making MSU-Buug as one of its partners in development, especially in terms of Information and Communication Technology.

Hence, the institution is immensely grateful to Chancellor, Sultan Pangandag M. Magolama, Vice Chancellor Josephine S. Merquillo, and CAS Dean, Dr. Rovy M. Banguis for their unwavering support in pursuing this once in a lifetime event in the fields of education and technology.
