Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay — 2024. In line with its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, Mindanao State University–Buug (MSU-Buug) has constructed concrete ramps and leveled pathways across its campus buildings, ensuring barrier-free entrances and safer mobility for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and all members of the academic community.
The initiative, completed in 2024, reflects the University’s dedication to creating an enabling and inclusive environment where every student, faculty, and visitor can move freely and safely. The new ramps and pathways address mobility concerns, particularly for individuals using wheelchairs, crutches, or other mobility aids, while also benefiting senior citizens and students carrying heavy loads.
These infrastructure upgrades were installed in key facilities, including the College of Education, to provide easier access to classrooms, offices, and common spaces. With this development, MSU-Buug strengthens its compliance with national accessibility standards and reinforces its broader advocacy under the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) Policy adopted in the same year.
University officials highlighted that this move goes beyond infrastructure—it is a statement of MSU-Buug’s commitment to equity and inclusivity. “By ensuring barrier-free access to education, we affirm our mission as a people’s university where no one is left behind,” the administration emphasized.
The project forms part of MSU-Buug’s long-term vision to create a more inclusive, student-centered campus, resonating with both local development goals and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
