Brief History:
The College of Hospitality Management, Mindanao State University Buug, Barangay Datu Panas, Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay is one of the eight colleges newly created by our Campus Chancellor, Dr. Pangandag M. Magolama in 2021.
The Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) department: A trace of its humble beginning and some of its milestones.
The ever growing hospitality industry with its spread worldwide such as the hotels, restaurants, many forms of transportation such as airplanes, cruise ships and general tourism and many more caters to tourists and uphold excellent customer service and satisfaction. As such, the Mindanao State University Buug has responded to the call of time by expanding its academic programs ushering, thus, the offering of the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM) under the department of Hotel and Restaurant Management or the HRM of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).
In 2007 most of the courses/subjects taken by students were minors the very reason that in year 2008 the university hired the first faculty assigned to teach in the department. In the succeeding year another faculty was added. In 2013, out of ten (10) graduates, one was absorbed and joined the work force in the university to strengthen the teaching force.
It was in the academic year 2007-2008 that the department had the course opened. It was truly a humble beginning as it started academic servicing with only six (6) and 9 students for the first and second semesters, respectively. In the succeeding academic years, enrollment seemed to rise as seen in the table 1 below:
Table 1. Enrollment per Academic Year
| Academic Year | 1st Semester | 2nd Semester |
| 2007-2008 | 6 | 9 |
| 2008-2009 | 10 | 23 |
| 2009—010 | 29 | 30 |

| 2015-2016 | 66 | 81 |
| 2016-2017 | 67 | 62 |
Despite increasing number of enrollees, not all made it through the graduation as a number of students did shift to other courses due to the limitations of financial sources. However, from the very start until the shifting of the curriculum from BSHRM to BS Hospitality Management this year 2022 based from the issued CHED CMO 62, Series, of 2017, the college has already produced more than a hundred graduates.
To prepare BSHM students towards becoming future hospitality supervisors and managers, the college sent students to the KUMBIRA in Cagayan de Oro City for the past successive years. It is a Mindanao-wide Culinary Competition for both students’ and professionals’ category. The department did have awards received as seen in table 2 below:

They were trained in other ASEAN member-countries like Malaysia, Singapore and United States of America (USA).
The College of the Hospitality Management has also been the hands and feet of the university as one of the primary sources of investments — that is, through its Income Generating Project or (IGP). Though income generated is not much of a figure but at least from AY 2010 to 2018 until today, the college approximately generated income for the university for almost Php1M gross sales. Apart from the sales, 90% was spent for purchases of kitchen equipment, hand tools and other supplies needed.
Presently, the College of HM has been cultivating continuously efforts to lift professional advancement as it under the auspices of CHED, sends off faculty members to take up Master of Business Administration major in Hospitality Management (MBA-HTM) and Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) as one CHED requirement of a college Dean of the program as discussed under the ASEAN Mutually Recognized Agreement or (MRA).Today, the College of Hospitality Management has 2 masters graduate for MBA and MBA_HTM and one Doctor in Business Administration.
